Bio

BRIAN P. TIMMONS, DME

Dr. Brian P. Timmons is the District Music Coordinator (6-12) for the Bergenfield Public Schools, and Director of Bands at Bergenfield High School where he directs the Honors Wind Ensemble and Marching Band and teaches AP Music Theory. He also serves as the Band Director at Seton Hall University, where he leads the band in performance for campus community events and in support of the men’s and women’s Pirates basketball program. In addition, he serves as adjunct professor of music at William Paterson University.

Dr. Timmons received his doctorate in music education from Liberty University, where his research focused on conductor mentoring. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from William Paterson University, where he studied conducting and trumpet with Dr. J. Craig Davis, and Master of Arts in wind conducting at Hofstra University, where he studied with Dr. Peter Loel Boonshaft.    

Ensembles under his direction have performed at NJPAC, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall. His guest conducting credits include the Ridgewood Concert Band, the William Paterson University Wind Ensemble and Summer Honors Band, the North Jersey Concert Band, the MEBCI Bergen County High School and Middle School Honor Bands, the Imperial Brass, the Teaneck Community Band, Rockland County (NY) Senior All-County Band, and the New Jersey Choral Society.  

He serves as President of the North Jersey Band Festival. He also served as President of the Music Educators of Bergen County, Inc. from 2010-12, and continues to serve as treasurer on the executive board.  In June of 2013, he was named a Yale University Distinguished Music Educator and represented New Jersey at Yale’s Symposium on Music in Schools, and was named the 2018 New Jersey representative of 50 Directors Who Make a Difference by School Band and Orchestra Magazine. In 2022 and 2024, he served on the faculty of the John Philip Sousa National High School Honor Band.
